Cape Town creative artist, photographer, writer and teacher, Gwendolyn Meyer has always been interested in the figure and explored it in her photography and life drawing.

Gwendolyn draws a great deal of inspiration for her figurative work from studying the form and movement of the perennial bathers who regularly visit Dalebrook pool, one of the pools along the False Bay coast from Muizenberg to Simonstown. "These paintings reflect my interest in watching people in the ocean and on the beach. There is something in the body language of a bather that reveals the shared nature of the human condition."

The work that features on our Online Charity Auction is a life drawn figural work done in oil on paper of a bather at Dalebrook pool. (See Lot 34).
