Johannesburg based Michael Cheesman works as a painter and printmaker. His practice investigates landscape–its mementos as well as the quality of landscape in painted form. 

 

He regards landscape as political. Who has access to which spaces, who gets to walk in certain areas and where we are able to live. “Who does the local estate agent gatekeep out of the neighbourhood?". 

 

Currently his creative work is concerned with craft and materials research, exploring printmaking, weaving and pottery.
