Louis was born in 1973 and currently lives in Cape Town.

“I grew up in Cape Town, moved to Pretoria in 1985. Matriculated at Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool, Pretoria in 1991. Studied Fine Arts at the University of Pretoria for 2 years. Traveled in Europe for a year. Worked as a desktop publishing artist for 2 years. Moved back to Cape Town in 1996. Worked in the film industry until 2003 as a scenic painter and props person. Have been painting professionally since 2003. Currently living in Gordons Bay. Had an exhibition in Melville, JHB at Bamboo Art gallery, February 2004

I show work in various galleries around the country.”

According to the artist, this painting suggests a relationship between the figures, but leaves it open and suggestive enough for the viewer to interpret in their own way.. Because our minds tend to project onto images, people's interpretation of the relationship/actions/pose etc in the image would differ. In other words, the interpretation of the painting lies with the perception of the viewer. One interpretaion of the figures' postures, is that it suggests a  relationship that has changed over time. 

 

The beach setting is used, as people feel more exposed and vulnerable wearing less clothing, while the  darker colour choice invoking an introspective mood,
