Laurel Holmes is a South African artist, born in 1964, and now based in Kommetjie, Cape Town. In 2012 after a career in corporate life, she began to concentrate solely on artmaking.

Her work is drawn from a strong attachment to the land, its sense of place and the life it supports. An interest in the flora of this country may come from family influence over the generations of growing one’s own food and in propagating plants.  A deep love for nature, and acknowledgment of its role in spiritual restoration, strongly impacts her work.

She works mainly in oils, and printmaking (mainly monotypes) and has recently ventured into more experimental works using mixed media. She has works in local and international private collections, like Tswalu Kalahari and Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
