LARISSA MATTHEWS

AVAILABLE WORK

Larissa studied B Comm Law at Stellenbosch University. She has pursued a variety of interests – among others – becoming a qualified Pilates and Yoga instructor and an active counsellor at Lifeline.

Larissa has always held a deep appreciation for art and nature. In 2012, her interest in sculpting was awakened when she saw and fell in love with a large concrete art work. She started by experimenting in concrete.

More recently she has been working in other media including resin, clay, bronze resin as well as bronze. Her work can be found in many outdoor spaces and gardens in South Africa.

“I find my soul and inspiration in nature. Sculpting connects me to that which is elevated and meaningful beyond the daily humdrum of life. I appreciate the human form and simplifying it into planes, creating simple and strong lines. This is visible in my current work through the use of cubism as a form of expression. Texture and movement within the planes that are created in my sculpting process is achieved by using a palette knife.”
