The Architecture of Leisure celebrates the spaces and moments in which we pause, play and simply enjoy being alive.

Through loose, flowing watercolour monotypes, I explore scenes of everyday leisure in Cape Town—sun-drenched beaches, mountains meeting the sea, and public swimming pools along the promenade. These familiar places are part of the city’s unique rhythm, where its extraordinary natural beauty and wonderful climate create endless opportunities to escape, unwind and reconnect with the outdoors.

I am drawn to the way people inhabit these spaces: swimming, resting, gathering and enjoying the simple pleasure of time spent beside the water. The fluidity and unpredictability of the monotype process echoes this sense of freedom, allowing the images to unfold spontaneously, capturing something of the lightness, movement and carefree spirit of a Cape Town summer.
