Karen Wykerd is a Cape Town-based artist working across painting, embroidery and printmaking. Her work explores everyday city and natural environments through a fascination with light, atmosphere and the interplay between detail and dissolution.

Working from photographs and observations gathered in streets, forests, beaches and around the city, Wykerd transforms familiar scenes through translucent washes of colour and carefully considered mark-making. Her watercolour monotypes embrace both control and chance, allowing the medium to create softly layered, atmospheric images.
