Jane holds a technikon diploma in Fine Arts & a BA (FA). She taught as a high school Visual Arts teacher both in model C & private schools and  learnt ceramics under James Hall as a part time student in the 70’s. Jane has had a home studio for many years & currently works from her home studio in Noordhoek.

As a newcomer to the Western Cape & living in Noordhoek she is constantly inspired by the big open sky & mountainous terrain. Her  ‘squares’ which are slab built, are a result of this inspiration. The smoke firing reflects the constant atmospheric change in the appearance of the sky & mountains.

Jane's  wheel-thrown pots are bisque fired & partially glazed before being smoke fired in a steel drum filled with sawdust. There is always something evocative about earth (clay) & fire.
