Gina Niederhumer is a recent Masters graduate from Michaelis School of Fine Arts.
Although her work is often very personal and appears fragile, dealing with issues surrounding family history and what it means to live between two worlds, Austria and South Africa...she also has this side to her work where she explores colour and stitches in a playful way, using often her journal entries or just arbitrary snippets someone said as departure points to appliqué her stitched pictures. Her work oeuvre spreads from large textile collages to gigantic fabric sharks and whales to little stitched jewelry and altered books, embroidered photographs and assemblages of found objects...there is always a story behind and very often are needle and thread involved.
Gina lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa.
