KARLIEN VAN ROOYEN

.
Karlien graduated with a degree in Contemporary Art from the University of South Australia. She was awarded the Minter Ellison Award for Artist with Outstanding Creative Potential and completed a seven-week ceramic residency in Jingdezhen, China, with help from the Carclew International Project Grant. After twelve impactful years in Australia, Karlien has returned to her roots in South Africa where she now resides and pursues art full-time. Her work continues to draw profound inspiration from her passion for wild spaces and the true nature of the human spirit.
"Clay allows me to set aside my mind and for the body to speak. Through embodied sculpting I evoke reminders of my primal self at the ‘cradle of craft’, merging a need for expression and utility. My sculptures serve as a textural reminder of our truer nature, bringing raw essence into the homes of those who dare to live greatly and create change”.
