Mary K is an artist based in central Zambia. She works mainly in oils on canvas, although she dabbles in acrylics and mixed media. Drawing is important to her as a means of discovery.

Her paintings are mostly representational, including portraits, still life and landscapes.

Without a preferred subject, she paints that which resonates with her emotionally and aesthetically, be it portraits of family, past and present or the beautiful natural environment in which she lives. It’s not always the subject matter that drives her, but the challenge of the painting process itself.

Mary completed a BA ( Fine Arts ) in 1985 in Pietermaritzburg KZN and did an HDE thereafter and taught art at a school in Durban for a short while before moving with my husband to a farm in Zambia.

She continued teaching part time for a few years after that but distances were an issue.

Mary  currently paints full time and occasionally teaches  painting workshops in her community .

She has had 3 solo exhibitions in lusaka, zambia’s capital  over the years  and 2 in our community, and taken part in various collaborative fund raisers .

Mary has some paintings that will be in a group show at the Bricklane gallery in London at the end of October this year.
